What is a Tesla Coil?

    A tesla coil is a device that produces high voltage, high frequency electricity using a series of transformers, spark gaps, and capacitors.  Invented by Nicola Tesla, a scientist who lived in the early part of the Nineteenhundreds (and was the actual inventor of the radio), the tesla coil can be used to perform many experiments as well as create beautiful pictures using a process known as Kirlian Photography

What is Kirlian Photography?

    Kirlian Photography, or electrophotography, was invented by the Kirlian brothers shortly after the invention of the tesla coil.  It involves running the electrical current produced by a tesla coil through film and an object.  This is accomplished by attaching a piece of metal to the terminal of a tesla coil, placing a piece of glass over the metal, placing photographic film or paper over the glass, placing an object onto the paper, and grounding an object.  The electrical current is then allowed to flow through the object for a short amount of time, usually around a second.   The film is then developed and the corona, or electrical current flowing around and through the object, is revealed.  Despite claims by many, it is not believed that there is any psychic aura visible under kirlian photography.
